Travel cover can be
arranged for one off trips and also
on an annual basis. With us all taking
more holidays and weekend breaks,
annual policies can prove remarkably
economical and are sometimes only
slightly more expensive than a single
trip cover.
When
arranging your travel insurance, checking
with just a few insurers will show
you a dramatic price range. There
are two main reasons for this. Firstly,
cover provided can of course be substantially
different, either in the form of policy
limits, or exclusions that apply.
Secondly, some insurance providers
will receive extraordinary levels
of commission - rates of 40% are not
unknown. Unfortunately, this makes
a lie of the saying, 'you get what
you pay for'.
One
of the main savings to made on your
travel insurance is for the option
to exclude baggage cover. If you have
'all risks' cover for personal belongings
under your home insurance, you should
not need to take this extra. In addition,
the baggage cover under a travel policy
has many restrictions, especially
for theft, and your home insurance
will usually be far more comprehensive.
Do check your home insurance policy
covers all risks worldwide however,
as some are limited to European countries.
Our
travel insurance arrangements normally
earn us a standard 15% commission
rate. In addition, we have chosen
underwriters who offer two tiers of
cover, with even the basic policy
offering cover that will be sufficient
for the vast majority of travellers.
